Afrofuturism is a style of art that takes African American culture and combines elements of science fiction, history, and fantasy to create what could be considered the modern evolution of the Black Arts Movement. The style of Surrealism art takes a normal reality and combines it with the visions of what could form the unconsciousness of dreams. Surrealism and Afrofuturism art could not be any different. Surrealistic art looks strange and unnatural. It is meant to represent a stream of consciousness and is freer flowing and imperfect in terms of design. Afrofuturism art is sleeker and more perfected. The method of the look and design behind it is to envision something more futuristic and higher tech, which is why a lot of it has a more “flawless” look. Surrealistic art also uses colors that are slightly muted whereas Afrofuturism art is bolder and more vibrant.
