Corridor Crew- One of my favorite Youtube Channels

Image
As someone who wants to get into the world of computer graphics and design, I like to look into an watch videos as to how certain VFX on movies or shows are made. Particuarly so I can hear the artists, animators and filmmakers talk about the process and how they crafted it.  So when I came upon a Youtube channel devoted to talking, critiquing, and creating VFX I was stoked to find something so catered towards to me. The channel is called "Corridor Crew".  Corridor Crew is a team of friends who also happen to be professional artists, animators, and filmmakers who specialize in CG and VFX work.  Their channel has a wide variety of videos ranging from talking about the CG work in both new and old movies, looking at stunt work, or using their skills and VFX professionals to do whatever they wish. Such as making a video on simulating the house from Pixar's "UP"  with real life physics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZsp1tgXkUI They've also done videos where t...

Gushing about Gumball

Image
If you were to ask me what was one of the best cartoons to come out of the 2010's, I would almost instantly say 'The Amazing World of Gumball". No hesitation. I feel like Gumball is a cartoon unlike any other from Cartoon Network or any other cartoon that was airing during its run. From a comedy standpoint, the show is absolutely hilarious. I don't think I've seen a show that, for me at least, has had almost EVRY episode hit with how funny it is. Whether it's the witty dialogue, visual comedy, slapstick, meta humor or the satirical humor that I feel gives South Park a run for its money. From a character standpoint, I think the show has given The Simpsons a run for its money with just how many diverse characters populate the world of Elmore and have been given time to shine in either a gag or a full episode. That's not to forget The Wattersons who, while they aren't perfect as characters or a family, are just easily lovable for how much they care about e...

Art Event #2

Yesterday, I had the pleasure to go see a movie a day early before it came out yesterday. That movie being the newest animated movie to be released this year, "Ron's Gone Wrong".  The debut film from the newly founded Locksmith Animation, Ron's Gone Wrong follows a socially awkward middle schooler named Barney who has trouble making friends due to every kid being focused on their "B-bot".When Barney finally gets his own B-bot, Ron, trouble arises due to Ron being a malfunctioning model. But it turns out Ron's imperfections might just be what Barney needs to make some friends.  I really enjoyed the movie. It's funny, very heartfelt and is a decent opener for Locksmith Animation. The animation was provided by DNEG, who have mostly dabbled in doing VFX for big features. This is their first fully animated movie and I think they did a really good job with the animation here. Especially for the designs and animation on Ron and the other "B-bots"...

How the look of one of my favorite movies of this year was made

Image
This year has been a decent year for movies all things consider. Especially those in the realm of animation. Among all of them, one of the movies that has been released that really became one of my favorites of the year is "The Mitchells Vs. The Machines".  Produced by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the brilliant duo behind The LEGO Movie, and coming from Sony Pictures Animation the movie tells the story of an aspiring, young filmmaker named Katie Mitchell who goes on a road trip with her family to a college she go accepted in. Unfortunately, their road trip gets interrutped by a robot uprising which threatens the whole world.  It's a heartfelt and extremely funny film that feels like a mashup of "A Goofy Movie" and "Maximum Overdrive", but what really makes it stand out is the film's unique animation style.  The film is a hybrid combination of 3D and 2D animation. Similar to the Sony Pictures Animation's previously released "Spider-Man: Into...

Why Sonic's movie redesign was better and much needed

Image
During one of our class sessions, we were talking about how vital and important the usage of "critiquing" was in the field of design. during that discussion, the topic of the Sonic The Hedgehog movie was brought up and how big the backlash and critique of Sonic's original design was.  Having to have also been one of the people who chimed into critiquing the design back in 2019 when it was first released, I thought it would be fun to explain why Sonic's original design did not work and why the the redesign was a much needed improvement.  The problem with Sonic's original design came down to two factors: "realism" and "recognizability".  First off, "realism". When you look at an image of Sonic, the first thing that that should come to mind is that he is no way realistic. He very much unrealistic in every single way.  He's a blue hedgehog with white cartoon gloves, big red shoes, and a cartoonishly large single combined eye. Nothin...

Art Event #1

Image
For my first art event, I wanted to go to the Gallery Of Fine Art at the campus.  I wanted to make it my first event because I am still new to Bowie State University and thought it would be a great place to start.  Unfortunately, when I got there, the Gallery Of Fine Art was closed and I was told it would not be opened for sometime.  HOWEVER, I feel that sometimes you need to make lemons out of lemonade and I noticed that there were several pieces of art around the Department Of Fine Arts facility. In a way, the facility was a gallery itself. So I went around the facility and took pictures of some pieces of art that really stood out to me.  And, while the actual gallery was closed, I still managed to take some pictures of the artwork from it from the outside.  I really enjoyed going around the facility and getting to look at all the wonderful art pieces showcased.

How I found out how to make a space background

Image
While working on my Afrofuturism Collage Project for Intro To Computer Graphics I wanted to implement a background into an image I was trying to create for my collage.  My idea was to go for a more space themed background for my collage since I am very much into the cosmic aesthetic. I didn't want to use any background of space from the internet for my collage since that would be taking someone else's work. So, I decided to look on Youtube for a tutorial and ended up finding this reasonably short one video on how to make a space background: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU-dUE-I8CE I followed the video halfway through since I liked what I already had.  While it was not finished to the extent of the video, I feel it came well regardless and fit in with what I was going for with my project. It really captured the look of space and the stars within it without me having to go more flamboyant with the colors. It really reminds me of the background they use for the ope...
